Don't misspend your day off.

We all look forward to our days off. Whether it's a weekend, a sudden bank holiday, or a vacation day, we count the hours until we finally get a sprawl of free time and can make it a leisurely day.

Sadly, days off are overrated.

Have you ever returned to the office feeling static and muddled– more in need of another break to get over this one?? Read on to get a few tips of things to do on your day off to really recharge. In the true sense.

1.     Relax and enjoy the quiet.

Work life can get loud. Whether you work from home or have a private office, life at work is full of distractions and conversations. Leaving little time for the brain to process or recharge. That is why it is important to have peace and quiet on your day off. If you are not the kind that likes to meditate, spend a few hours in the garden or balcony with a book or a cup of aromatic tea or just listen to music. There are various things that make people relax, for instance, a former colleague borrows her six-year daughter’s coloring book and spends a solid 15minutes with her oil pastels. Somebody else I know prefers a 30 minutes jog as a peaceful time to reconnect with her body.

Walking is also a great way to relax. It reduces stress, heart rate and blood pressure and puts you in a better mood.

2.     Get the chores out of the way early.

If you have any life admin or chores to do, then get them over with ASAP so that you can enjoy the rest of the day without feeling guilty. Have you been delaying the piling laundry? Or your workstation at home, is an anxious mess? Take today’s day to clear your list from this task. It will help alleviate stress in the long term and it will make you more productive. Chores do not have to be boring. Use your extra day to catch your breath. As long as you are not burnt out using your day, is a smart thing to do.

3.     Reserve a part of the day to chill with friends.

The Harvard business review recommends setting aside some time during your day off to catch up with your friends. Life forces us to adult. We find it very difficult to make time for buddies. Use this time to check out a new café along with a fellow foodie. If you prefer remaining indoors, invite a friend over for a quick online baking tutorial. What better way to have your cake and eat it too!

4. Do one thing you been putting off.

Yes, it’s time to get over that one pain point. A difficult phone call or completing a mundane task. As unbearable as it may seem, just use a few minutes to get over it. The exhilarating feeling thereafter can be treated with a luxurious spa day. Treat yourself! Little indulgences are what makes life worth living.
